Physical privacy is the freedom of invasion and interference of the physical aspects. On Instagram, if you change your account to a business account you have an option to insert your physical address. This address is put onto your profile for everyone to see, all they need to do it click or tap on the address and the coordinates to your location is opened onto their GPS.

Decisional privacy is the freedom to make your own decisions without invasion on any matter concerning health or career. On Instagram you have options that require you to decide, some are:

  • You can decide on whether you want to have a normal profile or if you want to change it to a business profile.
  • You have an option to make your profile public or private. Public would mean that everyone can see what you post, where as private means that a person would have to request to follow you, and you have to accept before they can view your posts.
  • You can decide whether or not you want to put information on your profile such as your name or more about you.

Mental privacy is the freedom of invasion by other minds. Instagram does not limit what can be seen on their platform, thus more and more people are posting inappropriate things that should be limited.

Informational privacy is the freedom of invasion and interference about an individual. Your personal information such as your email, gender and cell phone number can be kept hidden, this information will only be used for recovery purposes. For example, you forgot your password and want to reset it, if you initially provided Instagram with your email or cell phone number they will send you a link to reset your password.
